With the help of students, Chabad artist Sheina Dorn has been creating colorful, exciting murals in her hometown of Los Angeles, transforming the city “one wall at a time.”
Her latest project, a vivid new mural that celebrates Chinuch – Jewish education, was painted in just one day as a collaboration with another Chabad artist from the opposite coast.
The mural, which adorns the wall of Cheder Menachem School of Los Angeles, was created by Dorn together with Lubavitch pop artist Yitzchok Moully, along with Cheder Menachem students.
“While visiting LA, Yitzchok Moully reached out to me to ask if I wanted to collaborate on a mural, since he is working on a project creating murals depicting the 10 Mivtzoim around the Crown Heights neighborhood,” Sheina Dorn told COLlive.
Cheder Menachem invited them to create a mural on their wall, so naturally, they chose the Mitzvah of Torah study/ education for the side of the school building.
Together, the two artists got to work and created a vivid mural of a Sefer or Siddur, representing the boys learning Torah or davening, and showing the energy of Alef Bais and their words ascending to Hashem and giving Him nachas.
The image was planned to showcase both artists’ assets, Moully’s spray painting, and Dorn’s more refined painting style.
This is the 6th mural Dorn has painted in Los Angeles, including another one at Cheder Menachem, and others at various local schools.
One of her murals is a 50 ft. wide by 17 ft. tall tribute to the 3 Mitzvos of the woman – Challah, Shabbat candles, and family purity.
Dorn enlisted the help of her 8th-grade students of Bais Rebbe- Bais Chaya Mushka of Los Angeles for that one, which they painted in the garage of the school, “where all the cars drive through each day for carpool, so the painting greets the students and welcomes them to school every day,” she says.
“I wanted it to be colorful, yet beautiful at the same time,” Dorn says.
She used tape to design the mural and had the students paint a lot of it.
“These mitzvos are specifically for women, so I thought it very befitting for a girls school,” she says. “The girls were so proud to be part of this project.”

LOOOOVE IT.
So special. I wish we could have it in UK😉
I’m not religious and not a big fan of Jewish art but Sheina’s work is really impressive! It’s up to par with any murals you can find in Los Angeles. Sheina’s work looks really unique and you can tell she is a very skilled and technical artist. I guess this was a mission accomplished I can see Sheina’s murals of the shabbat candles and challa being very popular in the city.
Love the challah, mikvah, neiros murals
This work is a beacon of light for a young generation that seeks to express their relationship with G-d through their creative talent. There is so much beauty here, more than the eye can see. Thank you to the artists that made this a reality!
