This week’s portion is the source for the idea that we should seek medical treatment when in need of healing. But if Torah says we should go to doctors, why does the Talmud say: “the best of doctors are bound for purgatory? Clearly this does not mean what it seems to.
We need to also understand how healing actually works. Also, when should one listen to the doctor and when should one not listen?

Just clarifying that you are not saying that we should’nt look for the best Dr. possible, Bec, I was told by a Lubavitcher Rabbi that one should look for a top Dr.
He says you should seek normal, non-miraculous means of healing. So that includes trying to get the best doctor. HOWEVER, do not think thank that the best doctors are successful because they are the best. They are successful only because of Hashem’s blessing.
You should certainly seek out the best Doctors. The Torah of the Baal Shem Tov is that Tov is the numerical value of 17 one minus 18 since they in their overconfidence their ability to hear omit the blessing of refa’einu in Shemonah Esrei.
