Officials say the Obama administration in its waning hours defied Republican opposition and quietly released $221 million to the Palestinian Authority that GOP members of Congress had been blocking.
A State Department official and several congressional aides said the outgoing administration formally notified Congress it would spend the money Friday morning.
The official said former Secretary of State John Kerry had informed some lawmakers of the move shortly before he left the State Department for the last time Thursday.
The aides said written notification dated Jan. 20 was sent to Congress just hours before Donald Trump took the oath of office.
The Obama administration for some time had been pressing for the release of the money — which comes from the US Agency for International Development and is to be used for humanitarian aid in the West Bank and Gaza — for the Palestinian Authority, to support political and security reforms as well as help prepare for good governance and the rule of law in a future Palestinian state, according to the notification sent to Congress.

It wasn’t just US policy, it was the largest single pledge of military assistance in U.S. history.
Also regarding the UN, under Obama there was only 1 UN resolution passed that was critical of Israel, under George W Bush there were 6, under George H.W. Bush there were 9, and under Ronald Reagan there 21! Why is Obama singled out?

Just because Obama followed past U.S. policy of giving aid to Israel doesn’t make him pro Israel. Obama has demonstrated over the past 8 year how he prioritized the Palestinians by always blaming Israel for no peace, making as if settlements is the cause for the Palestinian violence, Obamas tough behavior towards Israel, the resent anti Israel UN resolution that he didn’t stop etc. So just the fact that he gave $221 million to the Palestinian wouldn’t make him anti Israel, but after Obamas long history of being anti Israel, the money he gave to the Palestinians demonstrates yet again… Read more »

Those in true need will not see a penny of this money unfortunately. If he wanted to do the right thing he should have arranged to have the disbursements monitored carefully as well. Big waste, oh well it’s only American taxpayer money. Was it ever uncovered where he was actually born??
This money is going to line the pockets of Abu Mazen and other PA leaders. And guess who’s going to be blamed for the “humanitarian” situation of the “palestinians”.

He and the others aren’t the first to do this. I think money has been released to the PA as long as Israel has been around. I wouldn’t have any beef with it, but the PA just gives the money meant for aid and relief, to Hamas and Fattah, which well….is terrible for all parties involved.
