Rabbi Chaim Lazer and Rivky Hershkovich have been appointed to direct community outreach and development for Chabad and F.R.E.E. of Niles, Illinois.
They will also serve as the official co-directors of the Chabad Cares division, a unique initiative dedicated to the seniors who are living in the area’s 17 nursing homes and senior housing residences.
Their primary focus, however, will be on community development, reaching out to the young families in the neighborhood and giving them a sense of community. A place where they will be able to feel the relevance and warmth of Yiddishkeit on a daily basis.
They will also be working with the local community colleges, offering classes and educating the students about their Jewish identity.
The largest new project will be the establishment of a concierge/resource center for Jewish travelers and businessmen in O’Hare airport and nearby convention centers who find themselves without kosher food, a place for Shabbos or other necessary resources.
Chabad and FREE of Niles, founded in 1987, is directed by Rabbi Binyomin Scheiman and Rabbi Naftoly Hershkovich.
