A fire broke out early Thursday morning at the main Shul of 770 Eastern Parkway.
The fire started in the gaboim’s closet of the Shul, NYPD said.
There was a small group of bochurim farbrenging nearby, who saw the fire and immediately called the fire department.
Fire fighters arrived on the scene and quickly put out the fire. The fire Marshall deemed the fire electrical and “not suspicious.”
The bomb squad and arson and explosion unit responded as well to verify the Marshall’s findings and remove the threat of terrorism, NYPD said.
There were no injuries.
“The entire Zal was smoky,” one witness said.

Indeed. A fire in 770 (rebbe’s shul, main CH shul), on Yud Shvat (Rebbe’s day). If you consider yourself a lubavitcher chosid and know what the Rebbe said in response to a previous fire in 770, you would probably seek to find an area of yours that needs improvement/completion which is related to Rebbe, Shul, Shchuna, and immediately rectify it.
Oh, and of course, on a purely gashmiyusdike level, the gaboim of 770 might want to re-check into the quality of electrical wiring throughout the building.
Of course today’s shul or Beis Midrash is obligated in mezuzah checking, see the amazing book “Mezuzah: Divine Protection and Blessing” page 72.
Today’s shuls are under maintenance by gabaim or board members who need to take care of these things
If it’s the Rebbe House and an hystorical site – please – make this place shine and be makom kavod to the Rebbe and all Chabad and guest
With all due respect, 770 is exempt from checking the mezuzos and so is any other shul
In the early 80’s there was an electrical fire that broke out under the area where the Rebbe would lead farbrengens. Sometime thereafter there was a huge fire which gutted the entire area of Vaad lehafotzas sichos. I remember both events. But more importantly I remember what the Rebbe said that Shabbos at the farbrengen. when reciving the key to the new beis chabad, the rebbe told r shlomo cunin, since he is the owner, then it should be open 24 hrs

i think every night 770 should be locked up at 11 p.m. the cleaning crew should be the only people allowed in there at that hour.
The fire stated in the gabbai (nochum kuplinski’s) room in the entrance by the steps after collecting the yortzit licht from yud shivat
