A man was killed and two others wounded when they were fired upon on a Brooklyn street Thursday night, police said.
Akaijah Evelyn, 37, and two other men, 36 and 31, were shot outside 777 St. Marks Ave., near New York Avenue, about 10:30 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said Friday morning.
The suspect or suspects may have driven up in a dark sedan and opened fire as part of a drug dispute, the spokesman said.
Evelyn, who lived nearby on St. Marks Avenue, was hit in the chest and pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital, police said.
The 31-year-old was hit in the right thigh while the 36-year-old was hit in the left foot, police said. Both were listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital, police said.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams stated:
“On behalf of all concerned Brooklynites, particularly the residents of Crown Heights and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, I want to express deep appreciation for the hard work of the NYPD’s Narcotics Unit in apprehending dozens of alleged violent gang members, an operation that additionally resulted in the seizure of a number of loaded weapons.
“This is a particularly impactful takedown to all those preparing for this weekend’s Carnival festivities, events that bring millions of revelers to our borough. Nothing can be more fundamental than ensuring the safety and security of our neighbors, and the continued collaborative efforts between community and police are making important strides toward advancing a safe and peaceful celebration of cultural pride that is uniquely Brooklyn.”
let’s make a protest about the parade
It is not fair to risk the life of even 1 person by bringing in crowds of people and not checking for weapons, not containing th situation.. STOP it today before another tragedy or more.
Of course S Marks is Crown Heights. Whoever doesn’t think so isn’t living in reality.
Stop being a weirdo the shootings had nothing to do with the parade. All the shootings that happen in the area they never report now they publish everything around this time. Think before speaking.
Why emphasize ” Crown Heights” in the headline?
Even if technically it may be Crown Heights, but for the readers of COL it’s not considered Crown Heights at the practical day to day level.
Why create unnecessary fear?!
Maybe the parade needs a different type of setup, maybe at a stadium, with everyone checked a the door etc.
The GREAT! America tolerates gangs!
Well folks, the govt. is too weak and powerless to defeat them. What can you do?
‘The Marines,’ Air Force, Infantry, Navy (Seals), Tank Corp., National Guard, Police, etc. are just too weak.
What can we do? We throw up our hands.k
(Maybe ‘Play Dead?’)
