Traveling this week, Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau had a layover at the Airport in Frankfurt, Germany, and he made sure to make good use of those few hours.
Meeting him at the terminal were Rabbi Zalman Gurevitch, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Frankfurt, Rabbi Yossi Havlin and his students of the Yeshiva Gedola rabbinical institute of Frankfurt.
Rabbi Havlin related their learning routine in the Yeshiva and noted how they are “a glorious continuation to the known and respected Jewish history of the city that once boasted scholars and commentators.”
In response, Rabbi Lau praised Chabad’s work and the bochurim’s studies with local community members. He encouraged them to keep spreading Torah and Mitzvos and noted how impressed he was with their knowledge and piety.
The group later turned to a conference room in the airport to enjoy a Glatt Kosher meal provided by the catering division of Sohar’s Kosher Restaurant in Frankfurt.
Sohar’s caters kosher meals for Lufthansa, the flagship carrier of Germany and the largest airline in Europe, and is under the strict supervision of Rabbi Havlin who heads the kosher certification in Frankfurt.
