A group of Chabad Shluchim from the Los Angeles area got together Sunday afternoon at the home of Rabbi Nachman Abend in North Hollywood for what is now an annual event.
While their wives were celebrating at the gala banquet of the International Kinus Hashluchos in New York, the Shluchim and their children gathered for a banquet of their own complete with foods served only when mom is away: pizza, popcorn, cotton-candy and soda.
Needless to say, the kids had a great time, while their fathers got to swap war stories from the “very long weekend” when full parental responsibility is placed on their shoulders.
We’re told they also shared tips on “how to survive until the Shluchos come back home.”
This special “banquet” also included a rally where the children said the 12 pesukim, gave tzedakah and participated in a “grand roll-call” of their Shlichus locations.
This weekend is fondly referred to by all Shluchim as “Shluchos appreciation weekend” since after this weekend all Shluchim truly appreciate their wives when they come back home.
…to have other families to join with, kosher food to buy and serve, schools to send their children to while “surviving” this “very long weekend”. Halevai oif alle shluchim gezugt. There will come a day when all shluchim will have frum families nearby.
Cute idea…;)
And Estee H.
I am sure that the shluchim drank lemon aid. When life gives you lemons we make LEMONADE…
she looks super happy…. tatty look down…..
The picture of the baby crying on the floor while older (but quite little) brother has his arm around the baby is priceless! “Dont worry, Mommy wont be gone forever.”
I spy Leeba 🙂
I had to laugh. In a cple shots the kids r crying and no guy even turned his head. Maybe don’t show the wives 😉
Good idea, next year iy”H we should all do it.
