Hasidic parents terrified by the savage murder of Leiby Kletzky are considering state-issued identification cards for their children that would make them easier to track if they go missing, The Post has learned.
The NYPD met with local members of the Shomrim patrol group and the Hatzolah ambulance corps in Williamsburg Monday night to discuss issuing Operation Safe Child cards to an estimated 25,000 Hasidic kids in Brooklyn, sources said.
The cards — issued by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services and used since 2005 by the NYPD — contain a child’s birth date, height, weight and fingerprints.
Safe Child cards issued to Orthodox Jewish children might also feature other distinctions, like the address of a child’s synagogue and yeshiva, said one person who was at the meeting.
Officials also want to increase the number of security cameras throughout Brooklyn’s Hasidic neighborhoods to nearly a camera per every two city blocks. They would be paid for and monitored privately and not by the NYPD.
These cards/fingerprints may eventually be used by law enforcement to track down and jail the frume kids years later in life.
Before Leibys abduction I was against implanting chips in to people now I am a supporter. More chips=more safety
I’m assuming the idea was to have the Jewish organization collect/store the info and turn over the info of that one single child to nypd in case of emergency c”v. That way we get the same positive affect without handing over everyone’s information to the government…
Why not just buy a tracking device and attach it to each kid. Then surely you won’t loose them! 🙂
Very great idea. #5 If Jewish agencies have all the info. how can they find a lost child? Do they have the manpower and resources of law enforcement agencies? What’s more important, avoiding ‘governmental meddling’ or saving a life? Question: Why no photo? What about, as others have said, sewing some electronic device into clothing? Of course all this is not the best way, even cameras can be fooled. The criminals know everything and try to find ways around it. A simple mask, for instance. Altered or stolen license plates. However, an atmosphere of ‘palpable’ fear surrounding harming a child… Read more »
The faster the police have a clear picture or description of the lost child the faster they NYPD or Shomrim have apprehend the child. Got it Hugh!

ITS THE 21ST CENTURY …PEOPLE USE THEM ON THEIR PETS WHY NOT KIDS

The last thing we need is to give the government even more access into our lives. Typical example of a government overreach as a result of a tragedy. I’m all for a private Jewish organization compiling the info. NOT THE GOVERNMENT!!!
An ID card would help find lost kids exactly how…?
What a waste of time!
On the other hand:
Officials also want to increase the number of security cameras throughout Brooklyn’s Hasidic neighborhoods to nearly a camera per every two city blocks.
They would be paid for and monitored privately and not by the NYPD.
THAT is a great idea.
This is great, every kid under 13 should G-d willing soon have one
I don’t get how this helps find the missing children faster
Hope they do this again as many kids are away at camp or in the country this time of year.
