Renowned Torah scholar and rabbinic authority, Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, is already known by thousands of talmidim the world over who studied under his tutelage at Yeshiva Gedola of Greater Miami. But now, thousands of new students will be discovering the warmth and brilliance of this master teacher through a new series of online courses on Chabad.org’s Jewish.TV airing Thursdays at 7pm Eastern.
Last Thursday, Lesson 1 of Rabbi Schapiro’s new 7-week course called Classic Arguments of the Talmud aired for the first time. New episodes will air each Thursday night at 7pm Eastern on Jewish.TV and are immediately available on-demand after that.
The course, which highlights famous debates between the sages of the Talmud, focuses on the much-studied divergence of opinion between Bais Hillel and Bais Shammai. Citing dozens of actual examples from both the Talmud Bavli and Yerushalmi, Rabbi Schapiro clearly presents each case and its background from inside the original text and then shows, according to the Rebbe’s famous explanation of “potential” and “actuality,” how the same line of thinking runs through each and every argument.
Jewish.TV creative director, Rabbi Shais Taub, said, “This class has such broad appeal. People who learned in yeshiva will get a lot of enjoyment from hearing Rabbi Schapiro’s explanations. His style is just so clear and powerful. Yet, at the very same time, people with absolutely no experience in Talmud study can follow along and understand. There are not many teachers who are capable of that.”
