A special meeting between the NYPD and the staff of Oholei Torah School took place Wednesday in the school’s building on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.
Oholei Torah School for boys is located on the north side of Eastern Parkway, which is the dividing line between Brooklyn’s northern and southern areas. The school is therefore under the jurisdiction of the 77th Precinct.
The meeting, coordinated by Brooklyn North Chief Gerald Nelson and activist Devorah Halberstam, was attended by Deputy Inspector Elvio Capocci and Officer Sacha Pierre-Louis of Brooklyn’s 77th Precinct.
Representing the school was Rabbi Yosef Rosenfeld, Executive Director of Oholei Torah, Rabbi Herschel Lustig – Dean of the Elementary School, and Mottel Bronstein, building manager.
Discussions at the meeting focused on increasing police presence at the school and making sure the children are safe at all times.
“The NYPD was very understanding about the needs of our community, and especially the young children,” Devorah Halberstam told COLlive. “They were very forthcoming about developing a safety plan which will keep our kids safe.”
In light of recent events, the school has implemented increased safety measures throughout the facility.
