Following the success of the pilot course last summer, Rabbi Shmuly Rothman, Director of CGI Pittsburgh, is offering a Head Staff Leadership Course for the worldwide network of Gan Israel day and overnight camps.
“The course is fresh, engaging, challenging – it’s out-of-the-box,” says Rothman. “It will change your summer, and quite possibly the rest of your life.”
Using technology provided by MaestroConference.com, Rothman leads a series of conference calls from his office in Pittsburgh. These calls are designed to be interactive, engaging, challenging and empowering.
The course covers a broad spectrum of “real life scenarios” that a camp staff will be experiencing on a daily basis. During the duration of the course, he offers email and telephone support along with continued support at the conclusion of the course. Past participants have reported “immediate practical application” of the lessons taught.
“Some of the topics are ones I would not have thought of, such as how to speak and interact with my superiors when they aren’t seeing things my way,” says Benzion Shemtov, HC, CGI Detroit 5770. “When things happened at camp that we were taught to anticipate, I was prepared and better able to deal with it.”
The course has been endorsed by many camp directors, including Rabbi Shmuli Friedman, CGI Beechwood, OH, Rabbi Aron Teleshevsky, CGI Brentwood LA, CA, Rabbi Moshe Weinbaum, CGI San Mateo, California, Rabbi Itchie Kahan, CGI Cherry Hill, NJ, Rabbi Mendel Zaltzman, Fairlawn Jewish Day Camp, NJ, Rabbi Shlomie Adler, CGI Fairfax, VA, Mrs. Esti Rosenblat, CGI Palo Alto, CA, Mrs. Rivky Klein, CGI Moscow, Russia and Mrs. Devora Caytak, CGI Ottawa, ON Canada.
“The courses exemplify the rule in all personal and professional development, that a little investment goes a long way,” says CGI of Port Washington Director Rabbi Ilan Weinberg. “This is knowledge and skills that can transform the way we approach our shlichus and our lives.”
Lieba Sapo, Head Counselor at CGI Milwaukee in 5770, says the course helped her to be able to finally enjoy her job and not count down the days to the end of schedule making, freedom from counselor issues, and disciplining campers. “I was confident in what I was doing. Handling situations became a method, and not an unachievable goal.”
Courses begin Monday, May 9. For more info go to www.shmulyrothman.com/cgi-lc.
