The Mayor of London Mr. Boris Johnson made a flying visit to Chabad of Ilford Essex’s Pesach shop, located in Sinclair House, a local Jewish community center in Redbridge.
The local Chabad Shluchim and Shluchos, are involved in numerous projects and events in Sinclair House throughout the year.
Together with Lee Scott, the local MP, member of Parliament and local counsellors, Head Shliach Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin MBE, gave Mayor Johnson a tour of the shop explaining how the whole project now in its fourth year is run only by volunteers thereby keeping the prices very low.
A door to door service especially for the elderly, where they are picked up from home to shop and back home again is very much appreciated by the aged within the community.
The project is the brainchild of and led by Mr Brian Mitchell, honorary treasurer of Chabad Lubavitch centers in Ilford and North East London, Essex UK.
“It was a great privilege to host the Mayor,” said Rabbi Sufrin. “The Mayor saw firsthand, this amazing Chabad project which was extremely busy for young and old alike.”
Rabbi Sufrin said that the Chabad Pesach Shop project benefits hundreds of families with their Pesach needs.
“It provides a real community base atmosphere, where all the local shuls and their membership have a chance of getting together creating a true feeling of unity and community cohesion.”
