The national legislature of the People’s Republic of China has amended its law on the elderly to require that adult children visit their aged parents “often,” AP reported.
State media say the new clause will allow elderly parents who feel neglected by their children to take them to court, the newswire said.
A rapidly developing China is facing increasing difficulty in caring for its aging population. The amendment does not specify how frequently such visits should occur.
As is known, the fifth of the Ten Commandments is “Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your G-d gives you.”
The Talmud (Kiddushin 30b) explains that there are 3 partners in man: G-d, his father, and his mother.
When a man honors his father and his mother, G-d says: “I consider it as though I had dwelt among them and they had honored Me.”
If the parent took the child to court because the child wasn’t keeping this law, wouldn’t it cause a lot of friction in the relationship?
HOW VERY VERY SAD IT IS THAT WE SHOULD NEED A LAW TO ENFORCE GROWN CHILDREN TO HONOR THEIR PARENTS!!! All I can say is I Thank G-d for children that absolutely make a point of remembering and care for me.
We should have a law like that here too.
