Rabbi Zalman Kazen OBM was one of the Rebbe’s first Shluchim in the United States, and leader of Congregation Zemach Zedek in Cleveland for over 50 years.
Together with his wife, Rebbetzin Shula Kazen, he worked tirelessly to sustain and expand the Jewish community in Ohio.
His memorable davening for the Amud, Chassidus classes, work as a community Shochet, and selfless dedication to teaching Jews as they arrived from the former Soviet Union about Yiddishkeit were hallmarks of his daily connection to the community.
He passed away in July of 2011 at the age of 92.
The members of his congregation have begun the writing of a new Torah in his memory, to keep his legacy alive.
