Chabad House on Campus in Pittsburgh, PA, celebrated its 23rd Anniversary with an overflow crowd of more than 200 people.
The gala event was held in the beautiful Ballroom of the University of Pittsburgh on Sunday evening, following Chai Elul.
Offering the diverse Pittsburgh Jewish community a truly memorable night out, the program began with Jewish Jazz played by a professional pianist and Chabad House alum, Doug Levine, on keyboard and the Chabad House Program Director, Rabbi Shua Hoexter on the sax.
Jewish students proudly wore Chabad House t-shirts as they served trays of Hors D’oeuvres to guests enjoying the lively and social atmosphere.
“We are thrilled to see the participation of young couples and veteran friends of Chabad House alike,” said Rabbi Shmuel Weinstein, Director. “The successful turnout is reflective of the expanding Pittsburgh community as well as a growing interest in Chabad House.”
Rabbi Manis Friedman, Keynote speaker, intrigued both supporters and students, with his humorous and insightful explanations of the difference in “Living” and “Existing”. His topic, “Home is where it’s at,” led the discussion back to focus on the benefit that Jewish students receive at Chabad House, where there is “real life” to be experienced together.
Mr. Bernard Brothman and Marsha Hoch, parents of Pitt senior, Alex Brothman, were honored with the Myer and Ann Cohen Service Award. Alex is a current student board member and past president of Chabad House at the University of Pittsburgh.
Chabad House Directors Rabbi Shmuel and Sara Weinstein have served Pittsburgh Area Campuses since the founding of Chabad House on Campus on Chai Elul, 5748 (1988).
