A Lubavitcher bochur from Morristown, NJ aims to end the confusion when it comes to picking a Yeshiva.
To help with navigating through the many choices bochurim have when choosing a location to learn, Mendy Paul has plans to launch a new site called “The Yeshiva Guide for the Perplexed.”
The project aims to provide valuable information to parents and bochurim looking to choose the right yeshiva for the coming year of study.
Such information would include:
* Names, numbers and emails of the hanhala.
* Virtual tour of the yeshiva to get a feel for the place.
* Video of each Rabbi giving his class, to get a taste of his teaching style and see if it suits you.
* Pictures of the dorm rooms, food and other amenities.
* Link to contact the Yeshiva.
* Calendar with all participating yeshiva’s schedules, customizable to include only Yeshivas you choose.
Aside for boys’ Yeshivas, plans are in the works for international educational institutions, summer camps and girls’ seminaries and high schools.
To raise funds for the creation of this new directory, Paul has launched a crowd-funding campaign.
You can find the full campaign at Yeshivaguide.com or here
No. Not at all.
but is the real issue being dealt with right now practically?
I dont know I think it’s a waste of time and energy that could be used for the real issue.
EXACTLY and thats why this project is great it will
A. Provide a way to 1.compare actual yeshiva enviornment’s and 2.provide a basis for where we are now and where the other yeshivas now and may in fact generate growth and competition where before it was pretty stagnant
I’m not sure why you think I’m an uneducated outsider; I’ve been in yeshiva for 5 years in 3 different yeshivas. First if all to clarify, I’m talking about zals hellearningearningre A. If you spend maybe 20% of your learning time in Shiur so unless a teacher is incredibly involved outside of Shiur there’s really not that much affect. B, C, D, E, are all extracurricular so they are important but everyone misses the point, which is this: 7 or 8 hours of your day are find be in zal learning (or not learning) essentially the same things in the same… Read more »
When you add the girl’s seminaries, don’t forget to include CyberSem-Excellence in elearning for the Jewish Woman
You don’t know how wrong you are.
EVERY yeshiva is VERY different from each other (i’ve personally been in 5 (3 usa 2 europe),
A. EVERY TEACHER IS DIFFERENT so obviously his class is unique.
B. Living space quality.
C. Food edibility.
D. Physical outlets 4 breaks.
E. Ruchnias extra curricular activities offered
and so much more.
So while an uneducated outside viewer might think every yeshiva is the same, you don’t know how wrong you are.
first wait for it to take off
Just wait till it takes off and everyone realizes there are no real differences
I didn’t realize the illusion of choice could go this far. Besides for the alternative yeshivas which are not for most bochurim every Lubavitch Yeshiva is essentially the same. This whole idea of going to a yeshiva that suits you is a myth. That is why bochurim have such a hard time picking one, they can’t figure out any real differences, because there aren’t any! Before you make a project of finding the right yeshiva perhaps you should first name sure there is a right yeshiva.
for doing something, not just complaining
datz right
of course hanholos have reason to be against. they are now actually being held to some sort of standard.
It can be the TripAdvisor of the yeshiva world, get your yeshivah rated today.

No, the hanholas are completely against it.
ARE YOU FOR REAL? What’s to be against????
Go #21!!
I just hope he gets enough money to make this happen!! I know him and how he plans to maintain it after it is made…the problem is the initial investment and computer programming to design from the ground up. Please lets all put our money where our mouths are!!
Awesome! 😉
GO ELI BEST GM EVER
GREAT VIDEO
I had a similar Idea when I was in Yeshiva (I think back then it was to make a newsletter) I was thinking to make reviews and ratings on each segment of the Yeshivas, teachers, food, dorm, location etc. But once i was out of it I gave up. Good luck.

When u haveto pay the tuition for yeshiva today, whats wrong woth being able to choose which one you would prefer. We live in 2012 not 1912. We’re talking about education not what color cotton candy. Parents should be Involved in which yeshiva options best suit their child. What’s odd about that? I think this bochur has a great idea and it can only benefit parents and hanhala of these institutions. We all want the same thing, a positive learning experience for our children, what’s wrong with knowing our choices in a clear fashion?
great project, most yishivos are so useless that I believe that they will be embarrassed to let you inside.great idea and good luck, when parents do the research they will be upset to see how much hard earned money goes to badly run institutions. The way to get accurate information is for bochurim to actually post photos/information, like any other social site, its the only way to get accurate info.

Anything that helps to match a bochur’s abilities with the proper yeshiva should be commended. As a mother of many boys, I often get phone calls for help in placing boys in a yeshiva where there is a high chance that they will succeed. They are not asking so much about the gashmiyus, but are trying to match the academics and ruchniyus to be a good match where the bochur can succeed and thrive. . Obviously this can’t be done by Mendy Paul, but if there were a way for parents and bochurim to comment on the website and share… Read more »
Go mendy Paul!!
I remember a time where the world was completely blind to reality, thankfully that’s forever changing.
Now a school will need to compete for the major amounts of money they charge parents annually and they will have to make sure the teachers hired are truly capable of inspiring the leaders of the next generation.
I hope you have what it takes to get this project off the ground and into a success, there should be a place for both students and parents to log in and rate both the school overall and individual teachers.

Back then you went to a specific yeshiva b/c you heard that rabbi gave a amzing shiur now you will never know till you get there and experience it first hand now bochurim go b/c of where their friends are going etc.. It’s great that maybe bochurim will start going to yeshivos where they… Read more »
Funny, I also remember yeshivos not charging 12-15 grand a year for tuition.
I was your first grade teacher, Mendy Paul.
Guess time flies us by…
A Thought… I remember when I was a child in Yeshiva… I was excited when a new year started that meant new Gemorreh’s Tenach Chumoshim.. etc,,, I remember my Father A”H telling me DER GUTEH BOCHUR VOS VILL LEREN DARF NIT DE NEYAH GEMOREH CHUMUSH.. ER KEN LEREN MIT A ZURISSENEH GEMOREH.. So now you have the Bochur interviewing the Yeshiva? taking a tour..is the dorm comfy or not … Does the Melamed give a good shiur or not..ad nauseum…. mit aza zugaing..trsust me the Bochur cant be matzliach.. To get into ‘CHACMEI LUBLIN’..a bochur needed to be farheredin 200… Read more »
are hanholos of the yeshivas also supporting this project?
You are certainly capable for the task which is sorely needed!! Yasher Koach!
This project has been long in the waiting
Totally needed
How about including a web site for girls or Bochrim looking for a place to learn in which one could match up the potential profile of the student with the type of institution
Especially fond of the description as a “Virtual tour”. Visiting Yeshivos can really help decide, but of course its not possible to visit them all. This can give a taste of being there.
Yasher Koach!
Good luck to you
This sounds like a very interesting project. I think you may also want to think bigger. How about creating a central website where all participating Yeshiva would record and upload all the Shiurim to one central website.
Take a look at http://www.yutorah.org. They have an extensive archive of Shuirim.
PS. I would force the Magidai Shiur to actually prepare their classes and give quality Shiurim.
Please include star reviews by past parents and students (verified) as well as expert reviews such as zagat or greatschools.com who would travel to yeshivos and give an unbiased 3rd party opinion.
All I can say is good luck!
I love the title!
I was in yeshiva and I think that it doesn’t make any difference which yeshiva you go to its all about the group you go with cause supposedly I went to a good yeshiva but it was horrible
Behatzlocho with it!! It will be doing all a big favor!!
This is such a great idea on so many level’s
If this takes off it could help shape and keep accountable alot of Yeshivos
Just an Idea. You may want to get Haskomos from different respected personalities to give their “HECHSHER” so to speak.
Best of luck!
Excellent idea, thank you! Just keep in mind you will have to be continually updating this vast amount of data at least annually – as people leave, graduate, change positions…. general life events. Buildings/structures are constructed, relocated, renamed, torn down, as well. This should not deter you. But keep in mind for the info to be valuable (“emes” and reliable) as a service to people (that is, for people to come back and give attention to your service), you will need lots of resources (time and money) to keep it up to date and hence reliable. Just some “constructive” feedback… Read more »
Mendy is a great guy. I hope he has a lot of hatzlacha with this project along with all other good things that he is up to.
Good Luck!
