Welcome to Monday Torah, a weekly internet class with Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, spiritual leader of Congregation Bais Shmuel in Crown Heights and world renowned teacher.
This week’s class analyzes the story in the Midrash that Avraham chose the Land of Israel because he saw that the people there were laboring hard.
Why Do We Have To Work? Is the question the class raises. If G-d is good and He created us to share His goodness with us, why didn’t He provide for all our needs? Why do we need to labor? And what was it about the labor Avraham observed in the land of Canaan that inspired his love for the country?
The class discussed the Rebbe’s unique answer to this question, presented at the time when many people suggested to the Rebbe that he retire from his hard work.
The Monday evening class is aired weekly on TheYeshiva.net and on COLlive.com.
