A singer instead of a rabbi.
The Besht Center, a relatively new community in Crown Heights, is in negotiations to hire a new rabbi to lead its shul on Empire Blvd. and replace Rabbi Mendel Kalmenson.
Kalmenson has been leading kumzitz sing-along events and will be conducting one last one this Motzoei Shabbos, February 4, with Jewish folk singer Moshe Hecht.
Hecht, who recently released his debut album “Heart is Alive,” will be bringing along some of his band members to liven up the evening.
They will lead the mens-only event with a large array of enjoyable kumzitz music, organizers said. The candlelit evening will also feature drinks and light refreshments.
“Events like these are the reason we opened our doors two and a half years ago,” says the center’s President, Sruly Clapman. “We wanted a place that would enrich the community, a place where we can all have meaningful fun.”
He mentioned some of their activities as an example: Chavrusah Sushi, in depth Gemara Shiur (“the people are addicted to”), barbecue, and Shabbos davening with a weekly guest lecturer.

Why if Reb Yisroel Clapman could be so successful as the President, why not have him be the Rav as well?
i hear charlie buttons is also being heavily considered…
cant wait
I heard that Rabbi Meir Kirshner of the Chof-K,is a potential candidate for the Rov or the Besht.
He’s already involved with a thriving Shul in Monsey, and he’s a big Yiras Shomayim.
The event has no admission charge, and is done purely as a service to the community. Please come and enjoy, but also feel free to donate.
The last Besht Kumziztz was in a backyard on Kingston ave, I was waiting for something indoors.
I was at the Tuesday night Gemara Shiyur at the besht, amd rabbi Shmuel Kuperman had over 20 people listening he was facinating. I was so impressed. I’m going every week from now on.
Just as I was passing thru this I was singing his song of “My Friend”.
I was wondering, on the flier it does not say a price for admission, is it cause it has a sponsor or cause thier so wealthy that they don’t need admission.
