U.S. President Barack Obama will be in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn this Friday, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday.
Shopping for Glick’s challah or goulash at Mermelstein is not on his schedule.
Instead, the president will be visiting the public high school located on Albany Avenue, between Bergen and Dean Street, which he has mentioned in his State of the Union Address this year.
The Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) was developed through a unique partnership between the IBM corporation, City University of New York – City Tech, and the New York City Department of Education.
The White House said Obama will “discuss the importance of ensuring that the next generation of middle class American workers and entrepreneurs has the skills they need to compete and win in a global economy.”
The federal Education Department is seeking congressional funding to use to replicate P-TECH’s six-year program, the New York Daily News reported.
New York City and State also plan to copy the school’s model elsewhere.
Later Friday, Obama will speak at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser and a separate event hosted by the Democratic National Committee, the paper reported.

I will admit, I am not learned in this; however, what you describe sounds like a dictator – your version of a King sounds like a dictator. I thought I once heard in a Rosh Hashana sermon that Hashem is like a king (or vice versa), and what was brought out was that the king was somewhat aloof, did not really want to lead, but was promoted by the people to lead – which seems much more comparable to an elected leader, than the dictator which you seem to describe.

The president is not a king. The United States never had a king. (Unless you consider the short period of time that the British unofficially ruled by docking warships along the eastern shores of the U.S.)
The president cannot issue commands, and we are not his “subjects”. He is not a “Melech” in any sense. U.S. power is controlled by three bodies of government, and he merely oversees it, much like the president of any corporation.
The “entourage” is primarily for security, not so much for “honor”.

I agree with #59. Before you do anything, find out if it will be beneficial to the cause — you want to help SMR — not hurt anything. It’s very important to find out if this is a good thing to do — and if yes, it has to be done right. Speak to the family please before you do anything. (NO, I am not part of the family – I just want to make sure it is a good idea — and maybe it is — I don’t want to poor cold water on a good idea either).

Mr. Obama, is coming to NY to raise money. The REAL reason he’s visiting the school is that in that way he can charge the most expensive parts of his trip (airforce one DC- NY and heli ride from airport to city) on the taxpayer dollar.

Obama has come to Los Angeles on 3 different occasions in the past 2 years….every street for at least ONE full mile or more is closed off….traffic comes to a complete standstill, an entourage of police motorcycles and security cars follow along. When this happened in L.A. this year, people had to abandon their cars and wait 4-6 hours to move while Obama had a motorcade going from the airport to his Fundraising destination with no care in the world.
