11 Chabad mosdos are listed as winners in part one of the Chase Community Giving Facebook contest.
Although the mosdos did not conduct extensive campaigns, a story on COLlive.com and Facebook networking among supporters for a little more than 24 hours garnered enough votes for the Chabad mosdos to make it into the top 100 charities.
“COLlive readers, thanks in large part to your help, 10 Chabad mosdos jumped into contention for the Chase Community Giving,” Rabbi Moshe Bryski of Chabad of the Conejo in Agoura Hills, CA wrote.
“We’re delighted to be the beneficiaries of the unique strength of the COLlive community,” said Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Director of American Friends of Lubavitch in Washington, DC, which placed in the top 50 winners.
“When our community is motivated to help, good things result for a large number of people. I don’t know of another community that can mobilize so many people on the web in this way so quickly.”
A strategy session was held this morning at their offices in Washington, DC, to contemplate approaches for the next phase, whose top prize will be $500,000. “We’re hopeful, yet practical, and think we have a decent shot.”
The second phase of the contest will begin May 19, according to the Chase Community Giving Website. Each of the top 100 contestants will compete for donations ranging from $20,000 to $500,000.
