Two women were lightly injured and four men were arrested on Shabbos afternoon after Ger chassidim in the Israeli city of Arad rioted in the central shul in a quarrel over its ownership.
The tension, which has simmered beneath the surface for several years, broke out following the death of Rabbi Bentzion Lipsker, Arad’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi who headed the central shul for some 35 years.
Rabbi Lipsker’s son-in-law, Rabbi Yaakov Mendelsohn, succeeded him as the synagogue’s rabbi and the Chabad Shliach in the city, a reality that does not meet the approval of all of the city’s frum residents.
A Bar Mitzvah for Mendelsohn’s 13 year-old son was being held when congregants reported Gerrer chassidim entering the shul and davening out loud, ignoring the ongoing minyan.
It later escalated on Shabbos afternoon when the Gerrer chassidim cursed and hurled chairs and tables at women who had entered the men’s section between services to get in out of the rain, according to eyewitnesses.
One woman, 54, was struck in the face by a chair; her 19-year-old daughter was hit in the head by a table.
Police have repeatedly been called to quell disturbances at the shul over the past several months, and clashes have escalated between
Ger insist their greater numbers entitle them to take over the shul, which has formally merged several months ago with Chabad.
If all the paths lead to Avoidas Hashem; then why all the bickering? Answer; People worship the PATHS!
dont go saying all Gerrer Chasidim are bad, it was a few men, they dont represent all Gerrer Chasidim!
and the Ger Rebbe are very bittul to the Lubavitcher Rebbe. They do big mitzvas at the local hospital, and have been very respectful and kind yiddin
Benven in Tsfat
is that what they want a shul for!!
How sad can it be, that two women coming in out of the rain can send more than 100 Gerrer chassidim into such a frenzy that they feel compelled to attack them by hurling tables and chairs at them? That IS the whole story. They cannot tolerate the presence of a woman in their daled amos, even when there is no tefillah, for any length of time whatsoever. And they impose that standard on anyone around them, regardless of whether they are in their own private institutions, or those of others. It is disgusting, and stupid beyond belief.
it all starts because jews fite and argue and bicker we need to be a rodeif shalom we need to seek peace everyday
