I always knew that deep down a Jew can never really disavow him or herself from Judaism. Yes, you get the occasional “NO, I’m not Jewish” and as the person continues on his way, you turn to your partner and say “I could have sworn he is Jewish, it’s written all over his face”. Nevertheless, I always knew that the question left a positive impression on that person, and this story proves it. its a bit sad that someone who lives in Brooklyn so close to all the beauty of the frum neighborhoods, and brought up in a Jewish home, ends up so far from yiddishkeit.
