A group of talmidim in Yeshivas Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown, NJ celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday by making a siyum on Tractate Beitzah.
The talmidim have spent the year in Rabbi Dovid Dick‘s beginners gemara shiur, level two of four in the Tiferes program, building knowledge of gemara terms, patterns, and background information needed to start learning of their own.
The talmidim making the siyum include Dovid Berns, Shlomo Fuchs, Betzalel Hymon, Aviv Aharon Illoz, Avraham Menachem Kener, and Levi Schrager.
Fashioned after the popular “Master Torah” concept of Torah learning, Rabbi Dick’s shiur covers significant ground across the year, while emphasizing a rigorous review schedule. Since Elul, the talmudim learned about 80 daf of gemara across three tractates. They were tested on their content knowledge by heart — chapters at a time.
Rabbi Moshe Herson shared opening remarks at the siyum, discussing the well-known gemara in Tractate Gittin in which Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakai asks Vespasian, the Roman emperor-to-be, to spare the city of Yavneh from destruction, thereby protecting the future center of Torah scholarship.
Furthermore, the Torah is one of the pillars on which the world stands, Rabbi Herson explained.
I am so proud of my alma mater. Continued success.
Nachas for the Rebbe !!
