Two workers at a Brooklyn construction site were trapped for over an hour Friday afternoon after a partial collapse of the building brought the roof down, fire officials said.
The two-story building on Lincoln Road in Prospect Lefferts Gardens was being demolished and turned into a five-story residential building.
FDNY Deputy Assitant Chief Joseph Ferrante said around 1 p.m. a brick wall on the second floor of the building fell onto the two workers, bringing with it part of the roof. It took more than an hour to successfully retrieve each of the trapped workers from under the fallen debris.
Responding crews performed a “highly tactical” and “dangerous” rescue of the two workers, Ferrante explained hours after the collapse.
The trapped workers were rescued at taken to nearby Kings County Hospital with serious injuries.
Department of Building engineers were on site for several hours after the collapse to assess the partially collapsed and neighboring buildings.
