The South African community held a Rambam Siyum celebration at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Over 1300 people attended the event which was held in honor of the Year of Hakhel.
Mandy Yachad, a former cricketer and hockey player for South Africa’s national teams, now turned observant Jew who learns Rambam religiously, headlined the event at the same stadium in which he once played.
South Africa Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein said Psalm 122, and businessmen Robbie Brozin and Simon Kuper addressed the crowd.
Businessman Shaun Mattisson completed the last lines of Rambam aloud, explaining that learning Rambam is for everyone. Ukraine Shliach Rabbi Yechiel Shlomo Levitansky spoke as well.
Rabbi Mordechai Rodal, together with a group of children who had participated in the recent Tzivos Hashem Chidon, launched the new Rambam Learning Cycle.
