When “A Jewish Star” international Jewish singing competition was marketed as “the most anticipated event of the year” in the Jewish music world, it was not an exaggeration.
Evidence of how closely it was followed around the world was indicated not only in the diversity of the Season Three auditions, but also the 10,000 views within 24 hours that a recap video of the finale show in Brooklyn College has received.
Posted online on Motzoei Shabbos by filmmaker Danny Finkelman, the 28 minute video was viewed by over 12,000 by Monday night and “liked” all over Facebook and social media.
“It gives people that have talent to finally get it out and show it to others,” said music superstar Lipa Schmeltzer who was a guest performer at the show. “If they are unique, they are making it to the big world! Regarding the winner (Choni Goldman), this guy really has it and I think he can make it big.”
Asked by JewishMusicReport.com about the chances of making it big in a crowded market, Lipa said: “There are a lot of elements involved but I think if you really put in the work, have a good selection of songs, and you really know what you’re doing, people will like you.”
Explaining the influx of Jewish music, Lipa said: “First of all, the community is growing. Second of all, every new thing by us takes a while to get accepted. It used to take guts for someone to get on stage and perform but today a lot of people say, “I can also do that,” and we see a lot of people getting up there.”
Mica Soffer, founder and co-Executive Producer of “A Jewish Star,” said Finkelman’s series of 4 reality videos, showing the lives and thoughts of the finalists and judges, gave the 2012 contest a new dimension.
“Danny and Yosuke Hosoi did a superb job in capturing the feelings and train of thoughts of these people, allowing fans from all over to get to know them better and understand what music means to them,” said Soffer.

With Hashem’s Help….
We will make a “home-made” video of 1 or 2 songs sung at the Holy Tomb of Rabbi Meir baal Haness, in Tiberias, on the shores of The Kinneret.
PS–it will probably be done without instruments, so that you can listen & watch it also after Pesach.
Keep tuned.
