The arrival of the first day of school at Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh was accompanied by clear skies, excited students, and bustling hallways. The energy of the new year was felt throughout all departments.
Close to 400 students are currently enrolled in Preschool through High School.
Grades 1-12 in the girls building assembled together in the gymnasium as they heard the shofar. Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld, Head Shliach of Western Pennsylvania and Dean of Yeshiva Schools welcomed everyone.
Rabbi Rosenfeld illustrated the Rebbe’s love for each and every Yid as a precious diamond. The students answered how diamonds and Yidden are similar; we all have Neshamos – compared to diamonds.
In addition, each diamond is unique; every individual gem sparkles in its own way and with its own unique advantages. Talmidim of the Rebbe’s moisad each represent and reflect these precious aspects.
Mrs. BatSheva Deren, Girls School Principal introduced and welcomed the new students. Mrs. Leah Shollar, Girls School General Studies Director, introduced and welcomed all of the past years’ teachers and this year’s new teachers.
Mrs. Nami Friedman, Girls School Assistant Principal, together with Mrs. Robin Meyerowitz, Preschool and Elementary Girls School Director, assisted in the annual tradition of welcoming the First Grade into the Yeshiva Girls School. Each first grader is called up by name; she is handed a beautifully customized hand-drawn welcome card illustrated by a 2nd grade student. Then, the entire school sang the school song and they were ready to begin the year with a Chassidishe chayos, lots of inspiration, and a beautiful feeling of belonging and a welcoming environment.
A few blocks away, the Yeshiva Boys School students in grades 1-11 were greeted with a colorful ‘Bruchim HaBaim’ banner and balloons.
There were 3 departmental assemblies throughout the day. Rabbi Rosenfeld inspired the talmudim with examples of how we can implement Chassidishkeit in today’s world and how we are a Nachas to the Rebbe in all that we do.
Mrs. Mindy Small, Boys School General Studies Director, welcomed all of the students and teachers to a special new year of additional integration in a variety of areas.
Rabbi Yosef Rosenblum, Boys School Principal, inspired everyone on the values that the new school year brings. He gave inspirational Divrei Torah that apply to the lives of each student.
Rabbi Eliezer Shusterman, Boys School Administrator, gave additional encouraging words and he reviewed policies and procedures.
Several classrooms were prepared with updated technology such as SmartBoards, RenWeb attendance and communication tools, and distance learning components.
The Preschool at Yeshiva, headed by Mrs. Blumi Rosenfeld, Preschool Director, began the year with boundless energy, smiles, and excitement throughout the building.
Mrs. Chaya Sara Baroccas, Assistant Preschool Director, welcomed all of the new and returning students with her signature smile and generous warmth.
All of the classes enjoyed their hands-on Rosh HaShana learning projects, the new outdoor playground equipment, greeting their friends, and their special lunch time together.
The first day was special to each and every student, parent, and teacher they look forward to utilizing their individual strengths, talents, and all of their learning skills into the new school year.
