Election day is fast approaching. And every vote really matters. Even in New York.
Especially our votes in Crown Heights. “Whether you vote or not is public record, but not who you vote for. Elected officials are looking to see if the community turned out,” said Yaacov Behrman, President of the Jewish Future Alliance.
As of October 10th, the Jewish Future Alliance estimates that Crown Heights has approximately 6,500-6,800 registered Anash voters eligible to participate in the presidential election, a historically high number. In the 2020 presidential election, approximately 4,438 Anash voters cast their ballots.
With only two weeks left to register, it’s crucial that we all do our part to ensure our friends and family are registered to vote. The last day to register is October 26th. Register today at Anashvote.com!
To reach this estimate, we note that since 2020, 5,602 Anash individuals have voted at least once (see JFA’s recent report). An additional 449 have registered between May 2023 and May 2024, and over 400 have registered in the past four months, primarily through the joint Jewish Future Alliance-COLlive.com voter awareness campaign. We also account for some of the newly registered voters since 2020 who never voted.
In the general Presidential Election, everyone can vote regardless of party affiliation—unlike in a Democratic primary, where only registered Democrats can participate.
If you won’t be able to vote in person, you can apply for an absentee ballot using the online Ballot Request Application portal: requestballot.vote.nyc The deadline to apply is also October 26th.
Important Note: Voters are no longer allowed to cast a ballot on a voting machine if they have been issued an early mail or absentee ballot for that election. However, those with an early mail or absentee ballot can still vote in person using an affidavit ballot.
Additionally, the JFA has identified approximately 200 inactive voters in Crown Heights who should still be active. Voters transition from Active to Inactive status when the Board of Elections sends out an information notice (such as poll site details for an upcoming election) and the mail is returned as “Undeliverable Return to Sender.” You can confirm your status is active by checking your registration at Anashvote.com. If you arrive at the polls and are listed as inactive, you can still vote in person using an affidavit ballot.
The JFA has also identified thousands of unregistered Anash in Crown Heights. Let’s bring up our numbers, as the Rebbe said, “Men Darf Gain Voting!”
