Each week, video creator Dovid Taub finds something strange in the Parshah and follows the trail of sources to discover fascinating and obscure ideas in Torah. This week he starts with a question that has been on his mind for many years: How big were the grapes?
In Parshas Shlach, the meraglim who were sent to scout out Eretz Yisroel brought back giant grapes and stories about giants that made the Bnei Yisroel afraid of entering the land. Rashi gives a method for determining the weight of the grapes, but doesn’t give the answer.
Taub uses the clues found in Rashi and Gemara, as well as opinions mentioned in other sources to make the calculations and finally figure out the size of the grapes.
