This past year has been incredibly challenging for Jews around the world. The rise in antisemitism has left our community feeling more vulnerable than ever. Jewish girls look around and see the institutions they trusted raging with antisemitism and the society they thought they were part of burning with hate. They no longer feel welcome in their cities, and their futures seem more uncertain than ever. Imagine what it feels like to think about going to a university where Jewish students are being persecuted, verbally harassed, and violently attacked.
What does this have to do with camp? Everything.
Given the rise in antisemitism, what do Jewish girls need today? They need a haven to feel secure, valued, and understood. They need a place where their Jewish identity can be celebrated and strengthened. They need a community that supports them unconditionally. In short, They need the exact things CGI Poconos has been providing for the last thirteen years.
This summer, CGI Poconos plans to provide once again generous scholarships for girls to attend camp. The scholarship fund will make this invaluable summer experience accessible to families of all backgrounds and means. Additionally, in light of these alarming times, ensuring the campers’ and staff’s safety and well-being has become a paramount concern. To this end, the camp is enhancing its security measures with a 24/7 professional team monitoring the campus perimeter. This crucial initiative will add an extra expense of $60,000.
