Stunning New Mikvah Dedicated at Chabad of Toronto

Finally, after years of planning and construction, the Gitta Ganz Women’s Mikvah is completed. The free standing structure is adjacent to the Chabad Lubavitch Community Centre in Thornhill, Ontario, and is truly magnificent and spacious. With seven prep rooms, with handicapped provisions, on-line appointment scheduling, and dedicated secluded parking, every detail has been carefully thought out.

The inaugural celebration was held Sunday, April 7th/28 Adar Bais. The event highlighed the importance of Mikvah, offered tours to the participants and showcased the amenities to newlyweds and brides.

“We took our cue,” said Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum, “from a slew of letters written by the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe obm, soon after arriving on the shores of America in 1940.” After prompting the Mikvah committee on the West side of Manhattan to complete building a Mikvah without delay. He then encouraged the community to host a prominent public event to celebrate the opening of this new facility.

Before the onset of winter, Howard and Mindy Ganz along with their family were invited for a preview tour of the facility and participated in a symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony. The Mikvah carries the name of their mother Gitta. As participants entered the room, they were treated to a delectable dairy buffet.

The program began with a video of the Rebbe portraying that a Mikvah should be beautiful B’gashmius U’bruchniyus and stressed that even the walls should be aesthetically pleasing.

The guest speaker was Mrs. Nechama Silberberg, the Chabad Shlucha to Western University in neighboring London, who over the course of some 20 years has influenced countless students to embrace Taharas Hamishpacha. She related that the objective of the event is to heighten an awareness of the importance of Mikvah and its relevance to safeguard marital bliss. Mrs. Silberberg then spoke about the Parsha that records the building of the Mishkan and all it’s details which were to be built according to exact specifications. “So too, she continued, building a Mikvah requires many provisions. “

Chanale Fellig from Eretz Yisroel electrified the audience of over 250 women with her musical presentation. She performed some of her own compilations and Nigunim and spoke about the daily life in Eretz Yisroel today. The program concluded with a Mikvah tour. All the attendees left uplifted and delighted after the Mikvah visit.
