Purim was celebrated for the first time in history in S. Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala, hosted by Rabbi Mendel and Chaya Mushka Tzikvashvili.
6 Megillah readings took place for residents and visitors of the lakeside village on the western shore of Lago Atitlán in the Sololá Department of Guatemala, throughout Purim.
Over 50 people gave and received Mishloach Manos. A festive meal was held for 25 tourists currently visiting the village.
Many of the guests mentioned that they were so grateful to be able celebrate the holiday, one they haven’t celebrated since their childhoods.
