Jacob Rothschild, the 4th Baron Rothschild, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. He was 87. A leading British investment banker and heir to his family’s historical legacy, he held several prominent roles in British public life and was active in numerous charitable arenas.
Baron Rothschild thought of his grandchildren’s Jewish education in his final years, gifting them JLI’s The Book of Jewish Knowledge as a legacy gift. “It is a great book,” he wrote to JLI at the time, “and it will be invaluable for my eight grandchildren. You must let me know how much I owe you for their coming education!”
Israeli President Isaac Herzog, a close family friend of Mr. Rothschild, praised his contributions to Britain, Israel, and the Jewish people. “We are especially sad to lose him during such difficult days,” President Herzog wrote, adding, “his generosity and wise counsel will be remembered with love and gratitude.”
