A grand siyum was celebrated Thursday on Mesechta Kiddushin by the Crown Heights daily Gemara Shiur given by Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald in Crown Heights.
The event also included a Farbrengen in honor of Chof Cheshvan.
Rabbi Mendel Yusewitz was the Emcee for the evening. Tehillim was recited by Rabbi Yossi Soffer.
Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald, who teaches the daily Shiur at Bais Gimpel in Crown Heights and streamed live online, made the Siyum on the Mesechta Kiddushin.
Rabbi Fishel Oster, who gives a daily Gemara Shiur at Merkaz Avreichim Shul in Crown Heights, started the next Mesechta of Bava Kama. He spoke about a hadran, and connected it to a Sicha from the Rebbe about Chinuch. Rabbi Oster spoke about the importance of giving yourself and your family a passion in Torah, how it changes your life and how a person can only be content with Torah.
Live music was played by musician Mendy Kraus, and the crowd enjoyed a beautifully catered meal by Levi Feigenson – Table 1 with decor by Chani Greenbaum. A Siyum on Mishnayos Beitza was made by Menachem Greenwald, a 4th-grade student.
Rabbi Greenwald then spoke about the connection of Mesechta Kiddushin and Chof Mar Cheshvan, the Rebbe Rashab’s birthday. He related the story of the Rebbe Rashab crying about Hashem not appearing to him, like He did to Avraham, and the Tzemach Tzedek’s answer to him about Avraham’s Mesiras Nefesh for Chinuch – and the lesson we learn from it.
The event was held l’iluy nishmas R’ Leib Skoblo obm, who passed away this week. Rabbi Greenwald noted that R’ Leib attended the Shiur every night, which was a dugma chaya for his children, and what we can learn as parents about being an example to our children.
Renowned scholar and lecturer Rabbi Simon Jacobson was the final speaker of the evening. Rabbi Jacobson spoke about the Rebbe’s stance on Israel, stressing our obligation to tell the world about the Rebbe’s views on the safety of Israel.
