In a momentous occasion for the Jewish community of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, a milestone event took place this past week that will forever be etched in their memories.
The joyous occasion was the Bris Milah of the newborn son of Chabad Shluchim, Rabbi Oshy and Liba Goodman. This historic ceremony marked the first-ever Bris Milah held on the picturesque Sunshine Coast, creating a significant milestone for the local Jewish community.
The event was a testament to the tireless efforts and dedication of the Goodmans to spreading Yiddishkeit in a place previously untouched by such event.
Friends, family, and community members joined together to offer their well-wishes to the Goodman family as they celebrated the covenant of their newborn son. In attendance were also fellow Shluchim – Rabbi Menachem Aron, Rabbi Levi Jaffe, Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Groner and R’ Sauly Spigler.
Rabbi Goodman, who officiated the ceremony, spoke passionately about the significance of the Bris Milah and the eternal bond it creates between the child and the Jewish people.
He emphasized the importance of continuing the chain of Jewish tradition and praised the Sunshine Coast community for their dedication to preserving their heritage despite the challenges of living in a region with limited Jewish infrastructure.
The Mohel was Rabbi Yehuda Niassof, and the child was named Menachem Mendel after the Rebbe. Following the ceremony, a Seudas Mitzvah meal was held, filled with warmth and heartfelt blessings for the newborn.
As the Sunshine Coast Jewish community continues to grow, it is certain that this historic Bris Milah ceremony will be remembered as a cornerstone moment, igniting a new chapter of Jewish life on the golden shores of Queensland.
