Since 2006 The David & Eda Schottenstein Foundation has helped each new shliach going out on shlichus with a $770 seed grant.
Over the past 17 years, the David & Eda Foundation has given millions of dollars in grants towards this specific effort but in an informal way.
Now, David and Eda are formalizing the program with a new full-time grant coordinator to oversee the distribution of funds and to ensure that there is additional follow up assistance if and when needed.
In addition to the New Shliach Grant, the Foundation will expand the program with a specific aim to help shluchim with unanticipated medical expenditures.
“Of all of the programs David and I have been involved in, the New Shliach Grant Program is certainly one of the most important and one we are so proud of,” David and Eda told COLlive. “And, in wanting to expand our efforts in this area, we felt that the medical expenditure area is an area where there is unfortunately a regular unmet need. Obviously we hope that this specific aspect of the program rarely gets used and that the New Shliach Grant Program continues to grow and thrive, exponentially.”
