On Sunday, the Jewish Uniformed Service Association of Maryland (Chabad) partnered with the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. Maryland Free State Post 167, Boy Scouts Troop 42 with Troopmaster Ian Sipple and Cub Scouts Pack 18 to put together mishloach manot, or Purim treats, for local veterans.
Lieutenant Colonel Mel Shichtman (USA ret.), the Cubmaster, said that the scouts had a good time putting together the Purim packages and are excited to help serve once again.
Over 85 veterans were gifted with the shalach manot, which was put together as part of the Veteran’s Circle of Friends initiative. The event was attended by Maryland Post Commander Colonel Erwin Burtnick (USA ret.) and Post 167 Commander Charles Sandler, who joined the team of volunteers to spread joy and happiness among the local veterans.
Dan Berkovitz, a JWV post member who spearheaded this event, said he loved seeing the smiles on the veterans’ faces when they received the shalach manot. JUSA Director Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum thanked all those present for their support of Veterans and the VCF Purim Shalach Manos initiative.
The event was a heartwarming example of community members coming together to support those who have served the country.
