My name is Chana Kagan, I’m a little girl of only 4 years old.
I was born to my dear parents Michoel and Esther, after many years of waiting and difficult treatments.
After only 3 years of enjoying their long-awaited miracle, the problems began. It started with an innocent looking rash on my back. My parents thought it was just spring allergies, so they tried all kinds of ointments and medicines, without success.
It wasn’t until I collapsed in middle of my mother’s birthday party that they discovered the worst news of all.
The doctor came out of the examination room and informed my parents that I was carrying metastases of a destructive liver tumor (carcinoma).
Since then, I’ve been receiving chemical and radiation treatments, which causes me terrible suffering. The doctors are waiting for me to be physically and mentally ready for even stronger radiation.
If they’d discovered this earlier, when the rash first appeared, my situation might have been better. Unfortunately as a result of the late discovery, my condition got more complicated and large blood clots and infections formed in my liver, adding more pain to my small, tormented body.
As a result of this, the doctors decided that I need a liver transplant, which costs a lot of money. However, the transplant can only be done after I recover from the radiation treatments.
Before this disease, I had beautiful golden hair and my mother used to enjoy making me a ponytail each morning. Now I’m bald, and I’m very embarrassed. At least I could still be the Shabbos Ima in kindergarten because I have a head covering anyway so they can’t see my bare head.
Despite everything, I try to be happy and play with my friends, and they say that I am a sweet and graceful smiling girl. I’m asking you to please help me so that my smile does not get erased, chas vishalom!
Once my disease was discovered, my parents’ lives came to a halt. They’ve been constantly running around with me between doctors’ visits, hospitals and all kinds of different healing institutions. They had to close their business, so they are no longer even earning a living. At this point they’ve run out of money for treatments. But if we don’t continue the treatments, then my body won’t be ready to go through the transplant and I might die, chas vishalom!
I’m only 4 years old and I don’t want to die!
I want to live! The chance of success of the treatments and of the transplant afterwards are very high. My chances of living are very high – and unfortunately now it is only a matter of money!
My parents waited for me for so many years and invested so much money and mental energy in order for me to be born. When they discovered the disease in me, they paid hundreds of thousands of shekels for all the treatments and medical expenses. I want them to be able to see my wedding, I don’t want them to chas vishalom bury me with a funeral!
Please don’t let this happen – I’m begging you! Help me live and give my parents the opportunity to continue paying for the treatments and for the transplant so that I can live!
My life that will be saved thanks to you, and the family that I will be able to build and the children that I will be able to bring into the world will forever be in your zechus. As it says, everyone who saves one Jewish soul is as if he saved a whole world!
