The Chevra Kadisha of Crown Heights is holding their annual fast day on the 15th of Kislev.
They recite Selichos and Krias Hatorah in the Davening during this day. They use the day to discuss the Jewish burial laws that require fixing or enhancement, as well as monetary matters relating to their activities and burial plots.
They visit Kivrei Tzadikim on this day and ask for forgiveness from the deceased if they did not act with them appropriately. After the fast, it is customary to make a large feast for the members of the Chevra Kadisha.

I heard about this, but I didn’t realize that they fast even on a Friday. Very interesting.
Yasher Koach to all the members of Chevra Kadisha!
Because it can never be on Shabbos.
Truly holy group.
Hashem should bentch them with all the brachos
If someone wants to volunteer for the Chevra Kaddisha, who should they speak to?
Thank you for all the holy work you do. Maybe you can make a central phone number where someone can call when c”v needed.
Traditionaly it’s done on Zayin Adar
Lately (which will become Traditionally).
Its the shortest day of the year
Traditionally, in Lita and White Russia it was indeed on 15 Kislev. There exists a record of the Alter Rebbe being inducted into the Chevra Kadisha of Liozna on that day, for example.
What was the kriah?
This happens every year, in every Jewish community, so it’s no more unusual than Purim or Tisha B’av. The only variation is the precise date, which depends on the community tradition. In Lita it was always Kislev 15, in Poland and Hungary it was Adar 7.
These are the real heroes.
