Jewish Girls Unite, the global online community for Jewish girls is celebrating the light and legacy of Sarah this week in honor of Parshas Chaye Sarah. Tonight, in conjunction with the Bat Mitzvah and Beyond Club, girls ages 9-18 are invited to a zoom candle-lighting Paint Night led by internationally celebrated artist Chana Laber at 7:30 pm.
Tomorrow night, for women in conjunction with the weekly GROW through Parsha, there will be a gathering of inspiration about candle lighting and a space to express what it means to us through art and poetry led by renowned Artists Chaya Pellin and Ahuva Cotes.
Honoring and celebrating the ongoing support and sponsorship of Linda and Ory Schwartz, through the 6th anniversary of their daughter Sivan’s Bat Mitzvah Project, ‘Invite to Light,’ the impact of which we still feel today. This is a living legacy. Linda Schwartz wanted all women to experience the joy that she discovered in lighting Shabbos candles as a young adult and working with JGU Global Director Nechama Laber, she created the Invite to Light challenge in honor of her daughter’s bat mitzvah. They distributed gold candle sticks designed by the Rebbe, and empowered girls to invite others to light candles, and submit essays about their own inspiration. The result was the publication of the One More Light book, the first publication of JGU Press, available today for your own inspiration.
Today, Linda and Ory Schwartz continue their support of this project to inspire women and girls to be that candle and to share the light of Shabbos with others. This week’s events are part of Jewish Girls Unite weekly online programs to empower Jewish girls around the world to shine their inner light. Sivan Schwartz, now an Intern with Jewish Girls Unite, will be our special guest.
Girls and women are invited to unite to ignite in the year of Hakhel and bring art supplies and what the Mitzvah of Shabbos candles means to you.
