Yoel Dovid Lenau, a 9-year-old boy from a Shluchim family in Ukraine who is visiting Jerusalem, was killed in a tragic accident Wednesday, after being hit by a cement truck while walking home from school.
He is the son of Rabbi Daniel Lenau, a Posek Halacha and Shliach in Kyiv, Ukraine for the past 10 years. His wife Nechama runs a children’s kindergarten in Kyiv.
The Lenau family had been serving their community under fire in Ukraine during the recent war, and recently, only after the month of Tishrei, traveled to Israel.
Rabbi Mordechai Levanhartz, Shliach and Rabbi of the city of Kyiv, said this evening: “The entire Chabad family in Ukraine is shocked, mourning and pained by the tragedy. We are all united at this time with the dear family.”
Emergency services were called after reports of a pedestrian struck near the Schneller apartment complex in Geulah. Responding EMT’s found a young boy unconscious and trapped beneath a cement mixer.
MDA paramedics and Hatzalah were unable to revive him and he passed away due to his injuries.
The levaya will take place tonight in Jerusalem, with burial on Har Hazeisim.
