New York City’s alternate-side parking rules are coming back in full force on July 5, meaning most motorists will once again have to move their cars twice a week for street sweeping.
The announcement from Mayor Adams is a reversal of changes ordered by former Mayor Bill de Blasio in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. That policy — put in place March 17, 2020 — required drivers on most residential streets to move their cars just one day a week instead of twice.
The city, which partially suspended alternate parking in March 2020, will reinstate its previous rules on July 5, Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference.
The policy, which allowed drivers to move their vehicles once a week instead of twice, was a “pandemic measure to let people stay inside” that “went on for far too long,” Tisch said.
The streets became so full of garbage and trash. Hopefully NY will get a lot cleaner going back to twice a week street cleaning. Its a small inconvenience that makes a big difference.
you obviously don’t own a car its not “a small inconvenience”
Actually I do, and the streets became so unclean with the 1 day a week alternate parking. Please! And you didn’t notice the huge increase in (rats)?
4 times a week. 2 times per side
This is a terrible!! Just a nother way for the city to make $.
They don’t clean the trash anyways….
Making it difficult for the taxpayer to live here. There is absolutely no reason why our neighborhood of Crown Heights needs more street cleaning than most of the rest of Brooklyn. Even the busiest parts of Boro Park and Flatbush have it only once a week on each side and they do just fine. We get the homeless shelters, the least apprehended criminals, and now this. Something is rotten here.
Not true at all. I lived in Flatbush and believe me, it’s much easier than im Crown Heights. Btw Im pretty livid about this decision as well. Flatbush has Alternate sides 3-4 times a week….however in CH at least you can double park and get away with it.
It’s such bologni btw….that the streets aren’t clean..ch is the same before and post covid. Just another way to make more revenue.
Theres 0 reason for 4 times a week…what the !!!
But keep smiling for those photos with the politicians! They just love us come election time.
They started ‘repairing’ Kingston Avenue- our main thoroughfare and then up and left a month ago leaving it in far worse condition- deep ruts, half dug out craters and obstacle courses to ruin our tires and shake up and damage all the vehicle parts and also posing danger to children and the elderly crossing the streets.
Yes, this has nothing to do with cleanliness, it’s just another way to be able to make money off of ticketing people. The rats were here when we had twice a week alternate side as well. Actually even more than now. I too have a car and it’s a real hassle to have to do this even once a week.
Why other areas in brooklyn have only once a week each side ?
This is way of making money and our life so much harder.
Where are the CH askonim ? Why they not changing it ?
CH is not cleaner than any other place in brooklyn it’s not right
And so the truck just skips the street. It’s hard to get everyone to do something. I feel like they need a better system, because it’s true there is so much garbage on the streets.
When someone does not move their car it is not because they do not want to cooperate but simply because they forgot. This happens to me on occasion and sometimes I am lucky and do not get fined other times I get fined $65. There are other neighborhoods such as Canarsie that does not have alternate side parking at all ever the people on the blocks agree to make sure the curb in front of their house is always clean and they actually take care of it so that it is actually cleaner than our neighborhood with the cleaner that… Read more »
google “petition against alternate side parking nyc”
“keep smiling” is right. Time for our “askanim” to stop this nonsense here. Everyone knows its just for the $
