Helping Our Own (HOO) is an organization of approximately 400 students of grades 9-12 in Bais Rivkah High School who volunteer with families with new babies, those needing assistance of Bikur Cholim, and with various families and individuals in the community. Combined, these volunteers visit 200 families and 35 seniors.
HOO would like to thank all of its volunteers for their help in the community.
Before Chanukah, the volunteers gave their families activity books called “What’s Going On?”, an interactive activity and coloring book. We are in the process of printing more activity books to share with the public but in the meantime, you can grab a free PDF copy below or by using this link:

Thank you to Dovid and Malkie Smetana for sponsoring the activity books!
Here is what Mrs. Chani Vogel, a teacher in Bais Rivah High School has to say about the activity book:
“Just want to give a shout out to Shiffy Goldstein! My daughter and I have a long motzei Shabbos ahead of us. My husband and son were busy putting up their fancy LED menorahs on the tank and in the car and I took out the workbook that we got from you for my daughter and I to do together. It is so thought-provoking, and my daughter is loving it.”
Rivka Goldstein, a 9th grade volunteer says: “I’m proud to be a HOO volunteer. It’s a win-win. I enjoy helping and the family appreciates me coming.”
Bh the families are thrilled to have dedicated volunteers come by weekly to “help our own”. The following is a sampling of grateful messages:
“They’ve been by me for the last three weeks. Tomorrow will be their fourth visit. They have been so so helpful. My kids look forward to their visit, BH!
Thank you for this program. It is tremendously appreciated.”
“I’m so grateful to Shaina and Rivky.
B’h my children are all out of the house and I simply need some teenagers to help with Shabbos preparations.
It’s either feast or famine, depending on the week. Either a quiet shabbos or one which I’m hosting family, Chabad house groups or who knows what. I can handle either with Shaina and Rivky at my side.”
“We are THRILLED with Mirel and Chaya!
They are super on top of everything, always reach out to confirm that they’re coming, and are INCREDIBLE with my children B”H! We are so grateful!”
“Yes, they’ve been coming weekly. They are responsible, come on time, and engage well with my kids. Thank you!”
“My hoo volunteers are great, thank you.
I really appreciate the coloring books that they brought yesterday, they kept my children busy all evening)
Thanks again, have a good Shabbos!”
“Thanks for sending the coloring books with the hoo girls, my kids really enjoyed. Such a smart idea!”

I had hoo the year my twins were born. It was a huge help! And the girls were fantastic with entertaining my other children.
So nice that you rent out the JCM for the volunteers to take our children to.
Thank you HOO!
My daughter was a hoo volunteer a few years ago. (She graduated already) and she still keeps in touch with her hoo family. The program is a win-win
I’m surprised you didn’t include the hoo motto in the article. A chossid is a giver!
I have BR girls visiting my elderly mother every week. She really looks forward to their visits. Beautiful program
Let’s not forget that the bikkur cholim volunteers are part of the hoo program.
My volunteers made a really sweet birthday party for my daughter. She felt like a million dollars
Beautiful program. My friend told me she has girls come to her house and they help do homework with her kids. Kol hakovod!
Thanks for sharing!
