Thomas Nides, a former vice chairman of Morgan Stanley and government official at the State Departement, was confirmed by the Senate as the new U.S. Ambassador to Israel on Thursday.
Nides, born to a Jewish family active in communal affairs in Minnesota, has previously served from 2011 to 2013 as the United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources during the Barack Obama administration.
He will be working out of the embassy of the United States in Israel which is located at 14 David Flusser Street in Jerusalem since the Donald Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
In June 2021, Nides was officially nominated to the position of ambassador by President Joe Biden. He was among a handful of ambassador nominations to be confirmed this week and last, the Hill reported.
Nides follows a list of Jewish people who held that position, including David Friedman (2017-2021), Daniel Shapiro (2011-2017), Daniel Kurtzer (2001-2005), Martin Indyk (1995-1997 and 1999-2001).
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan tweeted: “Congrats to Tom Nides on his confirmation to be US Amb to Israel. Amb Nides, I wish you much success in your role & a fruitful tenure at the US Embassy in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem. I’m sure that you will further strengthen the special bond between Israel & the US.”
In an interview with i24News, Israel’s former ambassador to the United States Michael Oren discussed the nomination.

It doesn’t say that he was born Jewish. It means that his family was active in the Minnesota Jewish community.
Look again at the first sentence below the title. Later it says what you state. Thanks

Too much emphasis on what he himself. His previous appointment by Obama and his current favor with Biden speak for themselves: He is comfortable carrying out the agenda of the Radical Left. And the current Israeli coalition government will only pay him lip-service while he presents an agenda antithetical to Jewish values and to Israel’s National Security.
