Okay here’s the deal, no matter what you have done or missed out on doing in the past you still have that innate power in you to generate a fire.
Wait. What?
In this weeks Torah portion, Balak the new king of Moab hires Bilam (or Balaam in english) to curse the Jews.
Now, this guy wasn’t just an ordinary despicable antisemite cursing out Jews. Yes, he was a heavy antisemite but he was legit a spiritual dude, a prophet actually, and for him, the job of cursing the jews was a very real spiritual one.
Of course, a legit prophecy is the legit word of G d and well, sorry Bilaam, G d isn’t interested in cursing the people who he has chosen to lead the way in bringing about the purpose of creation.
So G d frustrates the evil plan and instead of cursing us Bilam blesses us with beautiful blessings using very dramatic and poetic terminology.
“From the peak of flinty rock I see”… says Bilam who goes on to describe our glorious future.
Commentators explain that this is a reference to the rock solid foundation of our people. Our forefathers, Abraham Isaac and Jacob. They are the backbone of the nations special qualities.
The literal translation of the word Bilam uses here- is flint.
Our forefathers have passed down to us a remarkable quality in our genetics.
We are like Flintstone. We have an innate capability to produce sparks. The expression of fire in our soul.
(More precisely, this occurs when flinstone is struck together. When we unite with a fellow jew then sparks really fly.)
And here is a point to bear in mind always, Flintstone can be submerged deep beneath water for ages, and yet it does not lose this remarkable ability.
So too, us jews, it simply does not matter what you may have done or missed out on doing in the past, you are capable of producing bright light that can generate energy and warmth for everyone around.
Don’t think your ability to do so has been “submerged” so deep for so long and now it’s over and out. No! Certainly do not think that about someone else! This ability is by virtue of our G-dly soul which is genetically and spiritually passed down to us from our forefathers.
And when we unite and lovingly encourage one another- our individual and collective soul ignites and sparks fly. Sounds cheesy, maybe. But what’s real is real.
Get in Moshiach Mode! More love, more joy, more Torah study and more Mitzva-doing. Like this we demand Moshiach in our actions and of course, demand verbally as well “we want Moshiach now!”
When doing the above please have in mind a prayer for those affected by the building collapse here in Florida. May the situation be completely resolved very soon with only good news for all those affected.
