In honor of the fifth Yartzeit of Mendy Gorman OBM, the Gorman family has introduced an international mivtzoim initiative and Megilla Gemach in Mendy’s memory, to continue his legacy in fulfilling the Rebbe’s mission.
Torn away from his family and friends, at the young age of 45, Purim 5776 was an extremely difficult day to reconcile. The one day of the year quintessential for complete happiness and joy, turned into a tragic day of loss and mourning. That fateful Purim was surreal; his levaya attended by throngs of people in masks, clown costumes and face- paint, was almost Mendy’s way of leaving us with the last laugh of his priceless sense of humor, as his neshama ascended this earthly world after 8 months of suffering.
Amongst many of Mendy’s skills and accomplishments he achieved in his lifetime, such as chazzonus and safrus, Mendy would read the megilla countless times every year on Purim, with a special reading for children at the Chabad House of Edgware (London U.K.) There isn’t a Purim that goes by where Mendy’s megilla reading isn’t missed; by young and old alike.
In order to continue his legacy, the Gorman family along with all the nieces and nephews (Serebryanksi, Jaffe, Ohana, Gottlieb and Jacobson) and friends, have set up a mivtzoim gemach- where family members have already donated megillas to be used on mivtzoim in Mendy’s’ memory, on an international scale.
There are currently 5 megillas that have been donated to this cause, and we would like to reach out to all of Anash to take part: to sponsor a megilla that a Bochur can use and read continuously over the hours of Purim, benefiting Jews all over the planet.
Mendy’s Mivtzoim megillas are currently located in
Brisbane, Australia
Melbourne, Australia
London, England
Crown Heights
The goal of this initiative is to have as many megillas and leinings read over Purim in Mendy’s memory.
Last year, 25 leinings were done in total in Australia, the USA, the Caribbean, and in the U.K in Mendy’s memory ע״ה, and we aim to increase it this year, tenfold.

We miss Mendel so much and yes Mendel would love to be remembered on Purim but B’simcha that was his personality all the way
I still can’t believe Mendy is no longer with us, It is a Purim I’ll never forget. It was just Mendy’s obm humour to pass away on Purim. I miss my Chavrusa so much and I always drink a l’chaim to him.
I knew Mendel from Yeshiva through adulthood.
Such a special caring neshoma, he would literally give you the shirt off his back and support you both physically and spiritually when you needed it most.
His dear Rebbetzin is the same
He must surely be demanding from Hashem for Moshiach to come now as he would always stand up for what he felt was right
