An elderly woman in Holland is believed to be the first person to die after twice being infected with Covid-19, Dutch media reports.
Experts say the 89-year-old woman, who suffered from a rare type of bone marrow cancer, was first admitted to hospital earlier this year with a severe cough and fever after testing positive for the virus, Independent reports.
Doctors say that two months later she started chemotherapy treatment for her cancer and developed a fever, coughing and breathing difficulties.
Experts say that after testing samples from both cases they found the genetic makeup of the two viruses were different.
“It is likely that the second episode was a reinfection rather than prolonged shedding,” they stated in their report.
Her condition worsened on day eight of the second infection and she died two weeks later.
It is the first time that someone is reported to have died from a second spell of coronavirus, according to CNN.
Cases of reinfection have also been reported in the US, Hong Kong, Belgium and Ecuador.

Israel has 1 documented case of another version of covid causing re infection and 81 other cases israel says were likely also re infection. It still is rare.

We wear masks to protect those around us. We keep social distancing to protect ourselves and others. Why would anyone NOT do these simple respectful things that our own doctors recognize as medically sound. If you happen to be someone who had Covid or the antibody, please do the same in public. I am put into the position of having to cross the street a number of times each block I walk in CH because hardly anyone wears a mask and I don’t want to get Corona. Yes I am one of the very many who never had it and have no antibodies. We are the silent 40 percent. Never reinfected??? Never?? Really….and you know this based on the fact that they had it a few months ago and haven’t had it again in the last couple of months?
