Shmuel Rabinowitz, the 15 year old bochur who had gone missing Wednesday night has been located, COLlive has learned.
“They have located him, and now he needs to be rescued,” COLlive was told.
His family members have confirmed that he was found “safe and sound.”
Shmuel has communicated with his family by cell phone, a source told COLlive. He will be picked up and reunited with his family any minute, they said.
Shmuel, a bochur from Montreal, Canada, was taking part in a Pioneer Camp in Vermont when he went missing on Wednesday evening.
He was hiking with a large group of friends on the Appalachian Trail when he disappeared Wednesday night near the Cooper Lodge, police said.
Officials say late Thursday afternoon, Rabinowitz found his way to a shelter where he met up with other hikers and borrowed a cellphone. They say he is OK.
Multiple search and rescue crews such as Chaverim from Montreal and Rockland County joined the State Police to work the trails in the area looking for Rabinowitz Thursday. Search dogs were also called in.
