New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and his Jewish Liaison Pinchus Hikind visited the Jewish Children’s Museum last week and met with museum co-founder Devorah Halberstam.
At the meeting, while noshing on snacks and drinks, Mrs. Halberstam and Comptroller Stringer talked about the work of the Museum and its impact in the community.
Among the issues discussed was the rise of anti-Semitism in New York City and around the world, and specifically the rise of hate crimes in Crown Heights.
“The mission of the Jewish Children’s Museum was discussed, specifically as a way of promoting understanding and acceptance through education and culture to children of all walks of life,” Halberstam told COLlive. “Especially our Public School Initiative and Town Hall meetings with Middle School age children.”
Comptroller Stringer was fascinated by the tour, and was especially moved by the details of the exhibits portraying Jewish history and culture on the fourth floor of the museum, and “looks forward to bringing his children for a visit,” he said.
